Organic gardening is a hobby that anybody can do in order to relax. Horticulture can be overwhelming for a beginner. The question is, what can a beginner do to become knowledgeable on organic gardening? Well, a great place to start is with the following helpful article!

Mature Plants

Use pots to start your plants, then transfer them to a garden when they become seedlings. They are then more likely to survive and to become thriving, mature plants. This will also allow you to stick to a tighter, cleaner planting schedule. Your seedlings will be ready to go in as soon as you remove the previous set of mature plants.

Take all of the weeds out of your landscaping! Weeds can kill a precious garden. White vinegar can be a good solution. White vinegar is a fantastic weed killer! Spray white vinegar onto those troubling weeds.

Autumn not only means colder weather but new vegetables to plant. Instead of a clay pot, show some fall spirit by using a hollow pumpkin to plant your lettuce or kale in. You simply need to cut off the top, scoop out the guts, and spray your pumpkin with Wilt-Pruf. After that, your pumpkin planter is ready to use!

Pre-soak your seeds through the night in a dark area. Place your seeds in a container filled with water. This way, your seeds are well-hydrated and can start growing with a head start. Seeds that are cultivated this way are more likely to survive and mature properly.

To give them a boost, pour out any leftover water from steaming or boiling vegetables on the plants or soil around them. You can also use tea or coffee grounds to acidify soil for plants such as rhododendrons and gardenias. Chamomile tea can be effective if you have problems with fungus in your garden. Simply sprinkle it on the affected plant.

You don’t have to plant just for spring and summer. Consider what are often beautiful colors in the fall. It doesn’t have to be that way! Fall is the most colorful time of year for foliage. There are a number of trees that provide exuberant displays of color, such as Dogwood, Beech and Maple. Shrubs such as barberry, cotoneaster and hydrangea all have gorgeous fall foliage.

Make sure you protect your knees well while you are gardening. Bending over for a long while is quite difficult for a lot of people. You should kneel while tending to your plants for the sake of reducing stress to your spine. Place a cushioning kneeling pad on the ground or wear knee pads to make kneeling more comfortable.

Pine Needles

Pine needles make a great organic mulch. Some plants like acidic soil because they have high acidity. For such plants, pine needles function both as a handy mulch and as a soil amendment to lower the pH. Cover the plots with pine needles. As the pine needles decay, they’ll raise the soil’s acidity.

Coffee grounds are a good addition to your soil. Coffee grounds will add nitrogen to your soil which will make them helpful for some of your plants. Coffee grounds as a source of nitrogen for plants are usually limited to acid-loving plants because coffee is acidic. The coffee grounds act as a powerful nitrogen source that will help your plants bloom much quicker.

Get more profits from your property. One of the best things you can do to increase property value is to have proper landscaping. Investing in plants can raise the value of your property by 20%, or sometimes even more. Select plants that will adapt well to your regional area and require minimum maintenance

Use a laundry basket to help you collect produce from your garden. This laundry basket can be used as a type of strainer for all your produce. Rinse the produce while it sits in the basket, the extra water will go through the holes in the basket.

Your compost pile should contain green plants and dried ones in equal amounts. Green plant material consists of spent flowers, veggie and fruit waste, leaves, weeds, and grass clippings. For the dry end of the spectrum, think of things like paper and cardboard, sawdust, hay, etc. However, stay away from meats, manure from carnivores, charcoal and other potentially harmful substances.

It is by now obvious how beneficial and enjoyable organic horticulture can truly be when you know how to approach it. Watching your garden grow can be a source of great pleasure and joy. With the proper application of these suggestions, you will be achieving amazing results in your own organic garden in no time at all!
